Motion Maps™ LLC

Motion Maps^TM, LLC (MMLLC) was established to provide professional services related to the effective analysis and visualization of transportation system performance using data from various sources, such as:

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) detectors,
Global Positioning System (GPS) equipped probe vehicles,
Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) equipped transit buses,

Commercial Vehicle Operations

Other types such as the anonymous monitoring of cellular telephone movement

Recent work has focused on two main areas. The first area is ITS applications and particularly the use of data from ITS traffic flow detection technologies as well as working on standards related to the archiving and/or retrieval of such ITS-generated data. The spatial and temporal resolutions of quality data from such sources usually enables the preparation of animation displays that show how the traffic flow or similar characteristics concurrently change over a broad area or along a corridor through various time periods, such as morning or evening peak periods or during a day. Such animations are called Motion Maps^TM.

The second main area relates to travel time and speed data derived using GPS equipped probe vehicles. Services provided have ranged from sampling designs for the collection of region wide samples, field supervision of such data collection efforts, the reduction and analysis of such samples in Geographic Information System (GIS) database management systems, and the retrieval, display, visualizations of the data using proprietary GIS software, and reports describing and illustrating transportation system performance. If the sampling rate is either frequent enough within a given day, or collectively is frequent enough for a more prolonged time period, then effective displays of Motion Maps^TM using the GPS data can also be developed and presented.
